As a fashion designer, I always enjoy visiting fashion related museum exhibits.   This year I had an opportunity to travel and see four awsome exhibits in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco.   Isabel Toledo had a beautiful exhibit  at The Museum at FIT in NY.   Chicago had a historical fashion exhibit,  Chic Chicago: Couture Treasures  from the Chicago History Museum.

Currently on view Richard Avedon, Fashion Photographer at the SFMOMA in San Francisco.    I love Richard Avedon’s fashion photos and SFMOMA is an amazing must see museum.  Dress Codes a photography exhibit  on view in New York at the International Center for Photography until January 10, 2010, should be seen by everyone interested in fashion and art.  I’m really looking forward to checking out the current exhibition at The Museum at FIT,  American Beauty on view November 6 – April 10, 2010AmericanBeauty.WEB3 Ralph Rucci, American Beauty at the Museum at FIT

Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy

May 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

On May 7, 2008 – September 1, 2008 The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute will open the Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy exhibit and examine how fashion designers have interpreted the superhero symbolism in clothing.   According to the MET: “This exhibition will explore the symbolic and metaphorical associations between fashion and the superhero.   Featuring movie costumes, avant-garde haute couture, and high performance sportswear, it will reveal how the superhero serves as the ultimate metaphor for fashion and its ability to empower and transform the human body. Objects will be organized thematically around particular superheroes, whose movie costumes and superpowers will be catalysts for the discussion of key concepts of superheroism and their expression in fashion.”

This exhibit is definitely on my “to do list” for the summer.  I’m looking forward to seeing the display of high fashion, superhero fantasy and art together.  We can depend on the MET’s Costume Institute to put on an amazing show of beauty and fashion history.  They always provide us with inspiration for fresh innovative design ideas.
